How to Get Involved In 3 Easy Steps

Step 1

Support The 9 Hole Plan.

If you don’t have a strong opinion about the plan yet, you can learn more:

Learn about the numerous issues that Hiawatha faces, how they are interconnected, and how the 9 Hole Plan strikes the best balance to address them all.

Learn about how the 9 Hole Plan was created and all of the years, financial investments, scientific/city planning/engineer expertise, community engagement, and historical considerations that went into it.

Learn about why passing the plan now is urgent and why we can’t afford to wait and hope that a better solution will be created.

A good place to start to learn more is by reading our Myths Page and reading the articles that are linked to in the Media section of our website. If you have questions, you can email us at info@hiawatha4all.com.

Step 2

Contact the Park Board Commissioners.

Tell them you want them to pass the 9 Hole Compromise Plan.

This map shows what areas the commissioners represent and if they voted to advance or delay the 9 Hole Plan at the April 6th 2022 vote. At the meeting the 9 Hole Plan would have moved forward with the majority support of Olsen, Musich, Forney, Abene, and Alper, but Alper was out of town and was not permitted to vote remotely.

If you don’t have much time to spend, the best thing to do is email the commissioner that represents the area of the city you live in and the at-large commissioners who represent the entire city.

Even if you only write the words “I live and vote in your district. Please support the 9 Hole Plan for Hiawatha and get it passed without any further delay” that is enough. Most politicians keep track of how many emails and calls they get for or against a specific measure. If you want to invest a little more time in your email, tell them you will be paying attention to how they vote on this and it will influence how you vote/donate/volunteer in the next park board election. Most politicians pay attention to that kind of message.
